Gehenna

A shadow stirs where none should tread,
A whisper crawls inside your head.
No hands to strike, no beast to see,
Yet terror grips, why should it be?

No chains, no wounds, no threats appear,
Yet still you wake in quiet fear.
A thought alone, a flickering trace,
And yet your heart begins to race.

What shapes the dark behind your eyes?
What voice within distorts the skies?
It builds from whispers left unsaid,
A scream that wakes but leaves you dead.

A ghost of grief, a phantom cry,
A fear you’ve never known, yet why?
A hollow truth, a silent scream,
A cage that forms inside a dream.

No waking light can chase away
The things the mind lets slip and fray.
A nightmare breathes where none can see,
Not real, and yet it captures thee.
